Digital Certificates Start with the 2018 Foal Crop

Foals of 2018 and after will be issued digital certificates through the Jockey Club Interactive Registry!

All breeders will need to have a Jockey Club Interactive Registrationaccount set up to conduct business electronically with the Registry.

Digital Certificate - Frequently Asked Questions

1. How will I receive my Digital Certificate(s)?

When you log on to your Jockey Club Interactive Registration account, you will see an option under DIGITAL CERTIFICATES labeled CERTIFICATE MANAGEMENT that will display the certificates currently assigned to your Interactive Registration account.

2. Who is assigned the Digital Certificate?

Digital Certificates are assigned to a Certificate Manager, a person or entity authorized to control the disposition of a Digital Certificate. The Certificate Manager may or may not be the owner of the horse.

3. How will I forward my Digital Certificate to a sales company, racetrack, or other entity that requires the Certificate of Foal Registration?

The Certificate Manager will be able to assign the certificate to another party by selecting the appropriate entity or person, clicking the button that says "Assign Certificate," and then following the prompts to complete the assignment.

4. How will I know when a Digital Certificate has been assigned to my account?

An email notification will be sent shortly after a digital certificate(s) has been assigned to your Interactive Registration account.

5. Will all of my horses be issued a Digital Certificate?

Foals of 2018 and after will be issued Digital Certificates.

6. What if a mistake was made when assigning a Digital Certificate?

If a mistake was made when assigning a Digital Certificate the assignor should contact The Jockey Club for assistance at inquiries@jockeyclub.com.

7. How can I determine the current Digital Certificate Manager of a Thoroughbred?

When you log on to your Jockey Club Interactive Registration account, you will see an option under REGISTRATION labeled CHECK REGISTRATION STATUS that will display the current Digital Certificate Manager for foals of 2018 and later.

8. Does the ownership data recorded with the assignment of a Digital Certificate prove title to the horse?

No. The Jockey Club is a pedigree registry for Thoroughbred horses, not an ownership or title registry. Accordingly, any information presented by The Jockey Club concerning the "owner" of a horse is based solely upon information provided by others and is in no way warranted or otherwise offered by The Jockey Club as being a representation of who the actual owner or title holder of a particular Thoroughbred is.

People’s Choice Award: Decade Five 2014 – 2023 Thundering Trails: Alberta’s Decade of Speedy Thoroughbreds The third decade opened with Taylor’s Swift’s release of ‘1989’, which went on to be one of the best-selling albums of the decade, Malaysian airline flight 370 mysteriously disappeared and racing fans voted California Chrome’s win in the 140th Kentucky Derby the top racing moment of 2014. SMART FIX ran the first race of her career at Northlands, Jimmy Fallon took over the Tonight show and a 37 year drought was ended when American Pharaoh won the Triple Crown in 2015. The CTHS Alberta sale graduate SMART FIX went on to race for seven seasons and earned the title of 2019 Champion Alberta bred and Horse of the Year.

The first year of this decade was of special note for Thoroughbreds in North America. Hollywood Park was the site of the very first Breeders’ Cup, John Henry was the first Thoroughbred to win $6 million and the 110th Kentucky Derby was won by Swale. The movie Back to the Future was released in 1985, Coca-Cola changed its secret formula and then quickly brought the 99 year old recipe back a few months later and ROAD TO PONDER was on the track at Woodbine for the beginning of a four year racing career. Mainly racing out of Alberta, this chestnut horse had lifetime earnings of $268,881.

Alberta breds Running Elsewhere Congratulations to all the connections of Alberta bred PIPER ROSE, winner of the $17,000 Race 10 at Turf Paradise on February 26th. The ten year old mare ran the one mile race in a field of eight to win for owners Bennie Woolley Jr. and Mitchell Cathey. Piper Rose was bred by Lamont Heppner and ran for six years in Alberta, winning both the 2017 Alberta Oaks and the 2020 Alberta Fall Classic Distaff Handicap.
