2026 CTHS Alberta Thoroughbred Sale Posts Strong Gains, Led by $110,000 Olympiad Filly
September 23, 2026 – Westerner Park, Red Deer — The 2026 CTHS Alberta Thoroughbred Sale concluded with another strong year in the sales ring, posting increases in gross sales, average and median and highlighted by a $110,000 Alberta-bred sale topper purchased by Newtown Anner Stud Farm.
A total of 74 yearlings sold for $1,119,200, with gross sales up almost 10% over 2025. The average rose 8% to $15,151, while the median increased 17.5% to $11,750. The results were achieved from 96 yearlings offered, compared with 100 in 2025, while the number sold increased from 73 to 74.
Olympiad Filly Tops Sale at $110,000
Leading the 2026 sale was Hip 12, an Alberta-bred filly by Olympiad out of the Violence mare Buy Me a Rose, purchased for $110,000 by Newtown Anner Stud Farm and consigned by Highfield Investment Group.
The filly drew spirited bidding, with Alberta-based Stetson contingent and Everblack Cattle Co. helping drive the price to $110,000 before Newtown Anner Stud Farm ultimately secured the sale topper.
Reached by phone in Kentucky following the sale, Hanzly Albina, General Manager of Newtown Anner Stud Farm, was thrilled with the purchase. Albina had selected the filly from the catalogue, noting Newtown Anner’s strong belief in both her sire, Olympiad, and broodmare sire, Violence.
Of particular significance to the Alberta industry, the filly will remain in the province to race.
“We’re hearing good things about what’s happening with racing here in Alberta and really loved our experience with Playful last year, so we thought we’d buy a filly and be part of an exciting new future in Alberta.”
Albina also commented that the “future of racing looks very promising in Alberta and we are very excited to participate.”
The purchase continues Newtown Anner Stud Farm’s involvement in Alberta racing and reflects the operation’s enthusiasm for the opportunities it sees developing in the province.
Congratulations to Newtown Anner Stud Farm, Highfield Investment Group and all of the connections involved in the sale and purchase of the 2026 CTHS Alberta high-selling yearling.

Strong Demand at the Top of the Market
The $110,000 sale topper led a strong group of yearlings at the upper end of the market, with the five highest-priced yearlings representing five different consigning connections.
The second-highest price of $62,500 went to Hip 89, Shae’s Hope, a filly by Knicks Go out of Fiera Nocturna, consigned by Doug Oberg. Hip 32, Zero In, a gelding by Knicks Go out of High Fair, consigned by C.W. and Shirley Matier, followed at $45,500.
Rounding out the five highest-priced yearlings were Hip 5, an Honor A. P. filly out of Awesome Team, consigned by Boe Stone, who sold for $40,200, and Hip 67, a Mitole colt out of She’s Custom Made, consigned by Bryan and Carol Anderson, who brought $35,000.
Together with the sale-topping Olympiad filly consigned by Highfield Investment Group, the top five represented offspring by Olympiad, Knicks Go, Honor A. P. and Mitole, with two of the five by Knicks Go.
Alberta Stallions Make Their Mark
Alberta-based stallions also made their mark in the sales ring, with particularly encouraging results for the first yearlings offered by Fight On and Tap Master.
A first-crop filly by Fight On, Hip 52, brought $32,000, while another Fight On yearling, Hip 43, sold for $21,000. First-crop sire Tap Master was led by Hip 53 at $13,500.
Yearlings by established Alberta stallions also attracted buyers, including offerings by Mank, Fed Biz, Counterforce and Malibu Max, whose leading sellers brought $21,500, $20,000, $15,000 and $12,500, respectively.
The results add another positive note for Alberta’s breeding industry, with more opportunities ahead for Alberta-sired Thoroughbreds. The $50,000 Alberta Sire Debutante and $50,000 Alberta Sire Derby will take place October 17 at Century Downs Racetrack and Casino.
Looking Ahead to 2027
The CTHS Alberta extends a sincere thank you to all of the consignors, purchasers, bidders, sponsors and everyone who contributed to the success of the 2026 CTHS Alberta Thoroughbred Sale.
A tremendous amount of work goes into breeding, raising, developing and preparing yearlings for the sales ring. This year’s results reflect the commitment of Alberta’s breeders and consignors, along with the confidence of purchasers investing in these young horses and their future potential.
That confidence comes at an exciting time for Alberta racing. Many of the yearlings that passed through the sales ring this September will begin their early training and development over the coming year, with the potential to become the next generation of runners on Alberta racetracks in 2027.
The CTHS Alberta looks forward to building on the momentum of the 2026 sale and following this year’s graduates on their journeys to the racetrack.
