The Jockey Club of Canada Announces 2025 Sovereign Awards Finalists

The Jockey Club of Canada is pleased to announce the finalists for the 2025 Sovereign Awards honouring Canada’s champions and recognizing their outstanding achievements in Canadian thoroughbred racing and breeding.


Congratulations to the connections of Alberta bred Champion Older Main Track Female category finalist Alberta bred BIG HUG. The Mr. Big runner had her best season ever in 2025 with $179,120 in earnings. Big Hug is owned by Empire Equestrian and Kerredge Farm and was bred by Chalet Stable. The six year old mare was sold through the 2021 CTHS Alberta Sale for $3,768.


The winner of each category, along with Canada’s Horse of the Year for 2025, will be announced during our 51st Annual Sovereign Award ceremony which will be held on the evening of Thursday, April 23, 2026 at Paramount Eventspace in Woodbridge, Ontario.
