Owners of Alberta bred runners have the opportunity to participate in the Thoroughbred Breed Improvement Program which offers over $950,000 in Owners Breeding Support to owners of horses foaled in Alberta.

The Canadian Thoroughbred Horse Society (CTHS) recently announced the expansion of the Western Sales Stakes series to include Ontario thus making the series a truly Canadian initiative. This new CTHS Canadian Sales Stakes Series has annual purses totaling over $1 Million. As a result of this program, any Canadian-Bred yearling passing through any CTHS yearling sale as of 2018 will now be eligible for the Sales Stakes in any Province. The expansion of the series was ratified by the CTHS boards in the Provinces of British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba and Ontario. The program is intended to truly celebrate the Canadian-Bred and provide increased incentives for buyers to attend and buy at all the Canadian sales. In addition, it is anticipated that the series should increase prices at Canadian sales which will be beneficial for all consignors. More importantly, the CTHS believes that the field sizes in the Sales Stakes will improve as a result of the increased eligibility. The new Sales Stakes program is designed to build a Canadian Series and promote the Canadian-Bred Thoroughbred.
