Canadian Sales Stake Series Announcement

Admin • June 28, 2018

Canadian-breds eligible for Canadian Sales Stakes Series with annual purses totalling over $1 million (BC, AB, MB, ON).

The Canadian Thoroughbred Horse Society (CTHS) is extremely excited to announce the expansion of the Western Sales Stakes series to include
Ontario thus making the series a truly Canadian initiative. As a result, any Canadian-Bred yearling passing through any CTHS yearling sale in 2018 will now be eligible for the Sales Stakes in any Province.

The expansion of the series was ratified by the CTHS boards in the Provinces of British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba and Ontario. The program is intended to truly celebrate the Canadian-Bred and provide increased incentives for buyers to attend and buy at all the Canadian sales. In addition, it is anticipated that the series should increase prices at Canadian sales which will be beneficial for all consignors. More importantly, the CTHS believes that the field sizes in the Sales Stakes will improve as a result of the increased eligibility.

The new Sales Stakes program is designed to build a Canadian Series and promote the Canadian-Bred Thoroughbred. The CTHS intends to work
collaboratively with the racetracks to ensure that races are appropriately spaced to allow horses to participate in the races in multiple Provinces.

The CTHS sales for 2018 will kick off with the Manitoba sale to be held on August 19, 2018 followed by the Ontario sale on August 30, 2018. The
British Columbia sale is scheduled for September 11, 2018 and the season concludes with the Alberta sale on Wednesday, September 19th, 2018.
