Fancy As Passes Away

Admin • May 12, 2020

Sad news about a racehorse name that many will recognize, the multiple stakes winning FANCY AS. The 2001 Alberta Horse of the Year just passed away at the age of 22.

The Manitoba bred was consigned to the 1999 CTHS Manitoba Yearling by breeder, Ed Pawluk, and purchased by Alberta's Red Ron Farms for $2,148. The Dignitas bred gelding went on to earn $670,092 and win 16 of his 27 career starts. In the year that Fancy As was named Alberta Horse of the Year, he won seven stakes races including the Premier's Stakes, the B.C. Derby, the Canadian Derby, the Ky Alta, the Alberta Derby, the Hoofprint on My Heart and the President's Handicap.

Our condolences go out to all those who had a special connection with Fancy As. He was a special racehorse who will be remembered always in Canadian racing history.
