CTHS Alberta Mare Incentive Programs a Success
Two new incentive programs were introduced for 2023 – 2024; the Maiden Mare & Open Mare Breeding Incentive Program and the New Mare Recruitment Program
The Maiden Mare and Open Mare Breeding Incentive Program was established with the purpose of bringing new or out of production Thoroughbred mares into production in Alberta. This program was highly successful with 75 approved applications.
The objective of the New Mare Recruitment Program was to provide incentives to breeders with in-foal mares that had not foaled in Alberta within the last 2 years. 35 successful applications were approved for this popular program. Part 2 of the New Mare Recruitment Program will be available in 2024.
The total of $180,000 in funding for both programs was made available by Horse Racing Alberta, HBPA of Alberta and the CTHS Alberta.
