2017 Century Downs Thoroughbred Meet September 23 – November 5

Thoroughbred Racing Returns to Calgary Area:

This fall was an exciting time for Thoroughbred fans as ‘A’ Track racing made a successful return to the Calgary area on September 23, 2017. This date marked the first time in nine years that ‘A’ track live Thoroughbred racing has taken place in southern Alberta since Stampede Park ran its last race on June 15, 2008.

In 2016, the Alberta government signed a new ten year contract with Horse Racing Alberta. This long term deal brought the Thoroughbreds back to the south end of the province this season in a partnership with Century Casinos. Minister of Finance and President of the Treasury Board, Joe Ceci, was in attendance at Century Downs on the final weekend of racing and emphasized that the partnership with Horse Racing Alberta will give the entire horse racing industry renewed stability and confidence to develop future plans, “the return of thoroughbred race horses to Century Downs is an important signal that the industry is thriving.”
