Celebrate Oktoberfest Weekend at Century Downs Racetrack and Casino!


An Unforgettable Weekend of German Tradition, Live Horse Racing, and Student Scholarships


CALGARY, AB – Century Downs Racetrack and Casino along with the Canadian Thoroughbred Horse Society (Alberta Division) are excited to host a spectacular Oktoberfest weekend on Friday, October 4th and Saturday, October 5th, 2024! This two-day event will combine the best of German tradition with thrilling live horse racing and student-focused giveaways, creating a weekend packed with entertainment for all.


Friday Night: Paulaner Official Oktoberfest


Start the weekend with a taste of Germany at the Paulaner Official Oktoberfest. The evening will be filled with authentic Paulaner beer straight from Munich, traditional German oompah music by Du Hast Musik, and a lively atmosphere complete with festive décor.

Tickets are required for Friday night activities only and include a 14 oz souvenir beer stein plus your first pour of authentic Oktoberfest beer.

Participate in crowd-favorite contests such as:

  • Stein Holding
  • Best Dressed

Saturday: Sales Stake Festival & Campus Derby Day


On Saturday, no tickets are needed and the excitement shifts to the racetrack with live Thoroughbred racing starting at 12:45 p.m. The highlight of the day is the Sales Stake Festival Series, featuring four races with $50,000 purses each, specifically for Canadian-bred graduates of the CTHS Alberta Thoroughbred Sale.


These four thrilling races are split into divisions for both two-year-olds and three- to four-year-old horses, showcasing the finest Thoroughbred talent bred in Canada.


Campus Derby Day invites students to enjoy a free afternoon at the races. Plus, two lucky students will walk away with $1,000 scholarships—just get drawn for the final two races, and if your horse wins, so do you! Be sure to arrive early, as the first 200 students receive free betting vouchers.

Throughout the day, guests can enjoy more German oompah music from Du Hast Musik, German wine tastings, and Paulaner beer available for sale at the drink shack.

This annual showcase has become one of the most exciting days of the year for Alberta’s racing community, highlighting the quality and strength of CTHS Sales Stake graduates. Owners: Bigger and Better Rewards Owners of Alberta-breds will once again enjoy the benefit of a 25% bonus paid to the owners of Alberta-bred horses finishing win, place, or show in the Sales Stakes races. This program ensures that investing in Alberta-bred horses continues to deliver unmatched value, living up to the motto: “Owners of Alberta-breds earn more.” Trainers: Pride and Bragging Rights on the Line Trainers will also be chasing a unique prize. In 2025, the leading Sales Stakes trainer will be awarded a custom champion belt buckle – a one-of-a-kind award that symbolizes the best of Alberta racing and provides lasting bragging rights for the winning connections. Purse Money and Race Schedule This year’s Festival will feature four $50,000 sales stakes races , offering a total of $200,000 in total purse money .
