Thank You for a Successful 2025 Season

Dear Members and Industry Partners,

As the 2025 season comes to a close, we would like to sincerely thank our breeders, owners, horsepeople, workers, volunteers, partners, sponsors, and stakeholders for the commitment, passion, and collaboration that continue to support Alberta’s Thoroughbred industry.

This past year reflected the value of continued collaboration across the industry. Through strong participation and shared effort, Alberta’s Thoroughbred racing and breeding programs continued to provide support across all levels of involvement.

We are grateful for the continued support of Horse Racing Alberta through the Breeder Improvement Program (BIP). In 2025, more than $720,000 in breeder bonuses were distributed through BIP, providing breeders with a 25% bonus that was reinvested directly into Alberta’s provincial breeding industry. In addition, the HBPA distributed over $620,000 in owner bonuses at a 35% rate, further supporting owners and encouraging participation within Alberta racing.

Through HRA BIP CTHS is also pleased to distribute over $148,000 through industry programs, including the Open and Maiden Mare Program, Foal in Alberta Program, Mare Purchase Program, and 2YO Program, initiatives designed to strengthen the long-term health and sustainability of the breed. All of these programs will be available again in 2026.

Throughout the year, with the continued support of our sponsors and partners, CTHS hosted multiple industry events that welcomed over 600 attendees, creating opportunities to connect, share ideas, and celebrate the people behind the horses and the industry. These gatherings reflect the strength, engagement, and collaboration within our community.

The 2025 CTHS Yearling Sale marked an important milestone, achieving its highest gross in over a decade at $1,024,600. This year also marked the launch of CTHS’s first digital sale across Canada, helping to build a foundation and create new opportunities for horse trade and market access nationwide.

In addition, 2025 marked the first year the Alberta Fall Classic purse increased to $60,000, reflecting continued investment in premier racing opportunities and the growth of Alberta-bred stakes racing.

As we look ahead to 2026, our focus remains on supporting breeders and owners, encouraging participation, and working collaboratively across the industry to build a strong and sustainable future.

Thank you for being part of a successful 2025 season. We look forward to continuing this momentum together in the years ahead.

With appreciation,

Canadian Thoroughbred Horse Society
