2017 HRA Thoroughbred Breed Improvement Program Announcement

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

2017 HRA Thoroughbred Breed Improvement Program - Alberta Bred Owner’s Bonus

The HBPA of Alberta and the CTHS (Alberta Division), along with HRA are pleased to announce an allocation of an additional $160,000 funding to the Alberta Bred Owner’s Bonus Pool of the Thoroughbred BIP for 2017.

  • This additional funding is necessitated by the greater success of Alberta-breds competing in open company which is a key objective of the program.
  • The additional funding comes from contributions from the HBPA and CTHS as well as a reallocation of existing funds within the program.
  • In order to balance the budget that remains, the payout rate of the bonus will be adjusted from 37% to 30% for the remainder of 2017, effective immediately.

Champion Sire Counterforce Brings Exciting Breeding Opportunities to Alberta! Congratulations to the connections of Counterforce, who was named Champion Sire in British Columbia for 2025 at last night’s industry awards evening! The son of Smart Strike has built an impressive resume, previously earning Champion BC Sire in 2022, while also being recognized that same year as Champion Freshman Sire in both British Columbia and Canada. Now standing in Alberta for his second season, Alberta breeders are fortunate to have access to this proven sire whose progeny continue to make an impact on the racetrack.
