2021 Sale Preview Highlights

The 2021 CTHS Alberta Thoroughbred sale will take place at 3 PM on Friday, September 17th at AgriCentre East in Westerner Park, Red Deer. Buyers will have plenty of selection with forty nine quality yearlings, six two year olds, one mare and one stallion on offer in the main and supplementary catalogue. There will be on line bidding offered again in 2021 with Direct Livestock Marketing Systems (DLMS) hosting this service. 
The following provides a selection of highlights from the consignments:

Gordon Alger

Hips # 6, 13 and 39 in this consignment are by the sires Mank, Edison and Golden Ridge. The gelding by Mank is the first foal for the Going Commando mare, Swanky Lass. Mank is the sire of Alberta Two Year Old Sales Stakes winner last season, COMMON KNOWLEDGE ($45,715). The graded stakes winning sire, Edison, has three crops of racing age including three winners of $57,672. This is the first foal for the dam of the Edison yearling who is a half-sister to TATE’S LANDING ($171,064). The colt in this consignment is by the Distorted Humor son Golden Ridge, whose first foals are two year olds of 2021.

This Cape Canaveral filly is on offer as Hip 8 out of the Desperately sired mare Sweet Dawn. Cape Canaveral is a leading Canadian sire with progeny that include 38 stakes winners and earnings of over $17 Million. The multiple stakes placed Alberta champion PEARL OF KNOWLEDGE ($116,163) is sired by Cape Canaveral. Sweet Dawn is a proven broodmare with one foal to race to date, Camino Del Rey ($11,104).

An opportunity to purchase an Ontario bred yearling from the proven ‘Cool’ line of Alberta winners may be found with Hip 25. This gelding is by the stakes placed sire Numaany who has thirteen winners and progeny earnings of over $800,000. The dam is the Kahuna Jack sired Cool Commotion mare who is a sister to multiple stakes winner COOL KAHUNA ($147,776) and a half-sister to COOL VENTURA ($301,884), COOL SYNSATION ($166,272) and COOL DIABLO ($138,074). 


Ken and Megan Demyen


First time CTHS Alberta consignors Ken and Megan Demyen have Hips 12 and 51 on offer. The yearling and two year old by Poseidons Gift are the only two Saskatchewan bred horses available in the sale. The dam of the two year old is the Smarty Jones proven race mare, Starship Ballerina ($72,735), who is a half-sister to SQUARE DANCER ($299,121).


Esquirol Farms


This consignment of eight horses includes a weanling, four yearlings and three two year olds entered as Hips #49, 24, 35, 36, 45, 50, 53 and 54. Sire lines offered in this group include It’s No Joke, Texas Red, Imperialism, Palace and Big Lightning.


The Texas Red yearling filly is a highlight as this sire’s first foals are just three year olds of 2021 yet the Afleet Alex sire already has fifteen winners and progeny earnings of over $600,000 to date. The dam is the Belong to Me mare, Classy Missy, a half-sister to DUBLIN ($438,949) and Mike’s Classic ($327,718). The Imperialism yearling colt is out of the multiple stakes placed Alberta runner Kiss Me Goodbye ($85,577). This dam is a half-sister to multiple stakes placed Casanova King ($48,732).


The It’s No Joke two year old is out of the Saint Stephen mare, Saint Sassy Sue ($107,297), a half-sister to the stakes placed Sass n’ Brass. The Distorted Humor stallion It’s No Joke is a sire of sixty six winners and progeny earnings of over $6 Million. The Palace two year old is out of the race mare, Frisco Fox ($169,619), a half-sister to SWEET NANETTE ($392,845). The Big Lightning two year old filly is out of the Officer mare, Generalcbandsallie, a half-sister to KEEPMEINMIND ($739,987).


John Galatiuk


The estate of John Galatiuk has the multiple graded stakes winning son of Bernstein, Storm Military, entered in the Supplementary catalogue as Hip 2S. Bernstein was a leading sire twice in Argentina and has sired 926 winners with progeny earnings of over $68 Million including six champions.


Mike Glazier


Hip #20 is a Lent filly and the only yearling in the catalogue sired by this son of Pulpit. Lent is a half brother to grade 1 winner Fort Larned, in addition to grade 3 winner Walkabout and has sired twelve winners to date with earnings of over $330,000. The dam of this filly is a Trajectory mare who is a half sister to multiple stakes placed Ransom Captive ($169,022) and Summer Delight ($77,390). 


Keith Hickey


The Keith Hickey consignment has the only colts in the catalogue by the stallion Firespike, on offer as Hips # 1, 10 and 44. These colts are from the first crop of yearlings for the Flower Alley stakes winning son. Flower Alley has sired thirty-four stakes winners including four champions and Kentucky Derby winner, I’ll Have Another ($2,693,600). Hips #1 and 10 are the first foals for the Explicit and Summer Bird dams while Hip# 44 is the fourth foal for the Othello mare.

An exciting opportunity is available with this consignment of three yearlings to purchase Hips # 17 or 46, both yearlings by War Correspondent, a multiple graded stakes winning son of leading sire War Front. War Correspondent is a full brother to stakes winner Declaration of War ($1,847,489).


The first foals for this sire are just two year olds of 2021. The dam of Hip# 17 is Americas Dreaming ($105,350), producer of stakes placed Alberta runner, Pacioretty ($133,560). Hip #46 was produced by the stakes winning race mare, BALLYNOE ($160,361) who is the dam of three winners to date including Aqualityindividual ($66,369).


Hip #42 in the Highfield consignment is a filly by the Giant’s Causeway son, Destin. This filly is the only Destin yearling available in the catalogue out of Destin’s first crop who are just yearlings of 2021. The Awesome Again mare, Moneygrabber, is the dam of this Destin filly and has produced four foals to race to date including Madarnas ($52,725).

Two colts and a filly by the sire Heavenly Chorus are offered as Hips #26, 40 and 41 in this consignment. The son of champion sire Unbridled's Song Heavenly Chorus ran third in the Journal Handicap and the George Royal Stakes to be retired with earnings of over $230,000. 

Heavenly Chorus was a $475,000 Keeneland November sale weanling and is a half-brother to stakes winners Mr Freeze, Dilemma, Heavenly Ransom and Capitano.


 Hip 26 is a colt out of the Dehere mare Diner’s Diva ($62,605) who has produced one foal to race, There’s No Joe ($88,063). Hip 41, the Heavenly Chorus filly, is out of the Crafty Prospector mare, Miner Breeze. This dam is a half sister to stakes placed runner Crafty Breeze ($54,683) and has produced two winners including I Play to Win ($24,572) and Giant Mine ($75,398).

A yearling by Danza and a two year old by Court Vision, both out of the multiple stakes placed race mare Freuds on Holidays ($129,167), are on offer. This dam has produced three winners including Caeus in Pasadena ($54,775) and Off On Holiday ($47,195). Both Hips #27 and 52 are by proven sires; the Danza filly is by a Grade One winning sire with progeny earnings of over $2 Million from just three crops of racing age and the two year old is by a Breeders’ Cup Mile winner with race earnings of over $3.7 Million and progeny earnings of over $15.6 Million.

This consignment offers two geldings, Hip #23 by It’s No Joke and Hip #30 by Value Plus. The multiple grades stakes winner, It’s No Joke, has sired sixty six winners with progeny earnings of over $6 Million including Bear No Joke ($607,501) and Mallard’s Bro ($344,232). The dam of this yearling, Cherokee R N ($46,746), has produced two foals to race including Canaveral Bay ($22,996). Value Plus is a stakes winning sire who has progeny earnings of $13.7 Million and winners including Long on Value ($1,136,253) and All Due Respect ($468,880). The Value Plus gelding is out of the stakes winning mare HOLIDAY MAKER ($152,995), a half sister to ADORE ($500,924). 


Scott Palmer Ranching Ltd.

 

Three quality yearlings are available in this offering, Hip #11 by Brody’s Cause, Hip #14 by Omega Code and Hip #21 by Tapiture. Brody’s Cause is a stakes winning sire of over $ 1 Million and progeny earnings of $1.1 Million even though his first foals are just three year olds of 2021. This yearling is out of Trail of Letters ($57,595) who is a half sister to MR. ONLINE ($196,999) and Carmenootz ($204,006). This dam is a proven producer with winners that include Lost in Rome ($183,810) and Blaze a Trail ($38,826).


Stakes winning sire, Omega Code, has progeny that includes twelve stakes winners and earnings of over $8.6 Million. The Omega Code yearling is out of the mare Two Bright, a full sister to SPOTSGONE ($659,307), TURN TO LASS ($138,760) and LAUNCH A DOUBLE ($134,730). Two Bright has produced three winners including stakes placed runner Pure Rose ($43,135).


Tapiture is a stakes winning son of Tapit with progeny earnings of over $9 Million from three crops of racing age including Jesus’ Team ($1,338,540). The dam of this yearling is Carmen’s Kiss who has produced two winners from two foals to race, MAKEALITTLENOISE ($76,987) and ONLY ONE KISS ($34,589).

Side Management

 

A filly by Canadian Derby winner No Hesitation is available as Hip #32 in this consignment. The stakes winning son of Siberian Summer has sired progeny that include stakes winner MISS HESI ($63,113). This yearling is a full sister to Miss Hesi both out of the Officer mare, Insightofanofficer who is a half sister to Regal Countess ($264,102).

 

Starline Thoroughbreds

 

This consignment offers two yearlings by leading Canadian sire Cape Canaveral as Hip #3 and Hip #16. The Mr. Prospector son has sired progeny with earnings of over $17 Million including current Alberta champion PEARL OF KNOWLEDGE ($116,163).

Hip# 3 is out of the stakes winning race mare Rubyintheruff ($105,558) who has produced two winners including Theruffsideofexhi ($20,307). Hip #16 is the first foal for Whinny Magoogin ($45,831) who is a half sister to stakes winner AS YOU LIKE

Hip #2 is on offer by the stakes winning son of Dixie Union, Overanalyze. This proven sire has progeny with earnings of over $12.5 Million. This gelding is out of the multiple stakes winning mare RIVOLTELLA ($137,513) who is a half sister to KILGOWAN and NORTH BEACH. Hip# 38 is a yearling filly in this consignment by the Speightstown son, Central Banker, who has sired progeny with earnings of over $9.5 Million. A yearling filly is on offer as Hip #47 sired by the stakes winning Malibu Moon son, Mr. Z. The first foals for this stallion are just two year olds of 2021 and he already has a winner in Argon Asquifar (in one start). Hip# 48 is the second yearling in this consignment, a gelding by Grade One winner Cross Traffic whose progeny have earned over $7.8 Million and include champion Jaywalk ($1,668,500). The dam of this gelding is Miss Chievous Lady, a half sister to Tweeting ($195,538).

Hips #9, 15, 31, 33 and 34 are the five yearlings on offer in this consignment by the sires Mr. Big, Mor Spirit, Palace, Declassify and Shaman Ghost. Mr. Big is a Dynaformer son and has proven himself as a sire with progeny earnings of over $3.8 Million. The Eskendereya son, Mor Spirit, was a stakes winner of over $1.6 million and this yearling presents an opportunity to buy from the first crop of foals for this sire. The dam of the Mor Spirit gelding is Unusual Style ($72,735) who is a sister to LENNYFROMALIBU ($442,165) and HEAT DU JOUR ($277,334). The stallion Palace is a Grade One stakes winner of over $1.5 Million with progeny earnings of over $2.6 Million. A filly by the Orientate son and graded stakes winner Declassify is available out of the City Zip mare, Itsmy Zipcode. Hip #4 is out of the Discreet Cat mare, SALAZAR, who is a half sister to multiple graded stakes winner SHE’S A JULIE ($1,196,380) and dam of Dreadnaught ($47,217). Hip #29 is out of the Harlan’s Holiday mare, Harlican, who is a half sister to BOSTON EXPRESS ($189,189) and the dam of ZICATELA ($95,286). Hip #37 is out of the Point Given mare, Lemel, who has produced three winners including NORTHERN LOCOMOTIVE ($80,062).

 

Westside Thoroughbreds

 

A filly representing the sire Value Plus as Hip #28 is available in this consignment. The son of Unbridled’s Song is a stakes winning sire with progeny earnings of $13.7 Million and winners that include Long on Value ($1,136,253) and All Due Respect ($468,880). The dam of this filly is a Ghostzapper daughter who is a half sister to REBRANDED ($351,207).

Four yearlings from the first crop of yearlings for the Paddy O’Prado son, Mr O’Prado are consigned by Winsome Acres as Hips #18, 19, 22 and 43. Mr O’Prado is a half brother to stakes winner Deans Kitten ($802,950). Paddy O’Prado sired fourteen stakes winners including Sleepy Eyes Todd ($1,899,725) and Notapradaprice ($526,650).

Hip #18 is out of the mare Bear Clever Lady, a sister to CLEVER FELLOW and half sister to CLEVER SPEED ($130,126) and BLINKANHESGONE ($82,037). A filly by the Scat Daddy son, Mr. Recio is on offer in this consignment from the first crop of foals for this sire. Scat Daddy was leading sire four times in Chile with progeny that include fifteen champions, among them Dacita (CHI) ($1,539,369) and Justify ($3,798,000). This is the first foal for the Cape Canaveral sired dam, Solar Sally.

If you visit Anne Kursinski’s Market Street facility in Frenchtown, New Jersey, you might notice a striking bay gelding with a broad blaze and four white socks being ridden by one of her students or her partner, Carol Hoffman. 2025 Stallion News – Malibu Moon son MOONSHINE NOW Malibu Moon son MOONSHINE NOW is standing at Copper Kettle Performance Horses for the 2025 season. Champion Sire Malibu Moon is one of A.P. Indy’s most successful progeny to enter stud. Moonshine Now is out of Ask Me When by Champion sire Speighstown. Ask Me When comes from an impressive female line that has produced multiple black type runners including a full sibling that earned over $500,000 on the racetrack featuring a graded stakes performance.
