2018 Breeders' Bonus

Horse Racing Alberta's Breeder' Bonus for 2018 totals $455,322 and is being distributed through the Breed Improvement Program. The bonus is based on horses of all ages foaled in Alberta placing win, place and show in all sanctioned races in Alberta having a minimum $10,000 purse (Northlands), $8,500 purse (Century Downs) and where entered at or above a minimum $8,000 claiming price. The bonus is paid after the conclusion of the Alberta racing season. Bonuses will not be paid for eligible races that have four (4) or less starters. This year's bonus is 26% of the earnings of all races held in Alberta racetracks in 2018.

Effective in 2017, recipients of the Breed Improvement Program - Thoroughbred program were required to be members in good standing of the C.T.H.S. (Full or Associate member designation) in order to receive the breeders' bonus. Announcement of this change was mailed to all past and present Breeders' Bonus recipients in 2016 and was published in the Breed Improvement Program in the 2018 brochure.
