The Horse Racing Alberta Breed Improvement Program Stallion Bonus rewarded 34 stallions at a rate of 3.25%, building on the momentum of 2023’s $75,000 at 3.26%—a testament to the growing success of Alberta-sired runners.

The upcoming 2025 season in Alberta is set to be an exciting one, with the Stallion Owners Breeding Awards increasing to an impressive $100,000! This boost promises a season full of growth and anticipation for breeders and enthusiasts alike.

Adding to the excitement, two new stallions are joining the province; Moonshine Now and Tapiture. Moonshine Now, a son of Malibu Moon, comes from a stellar pedigree, out of Ask Me When, whose lineage boasts multiple black-type runners, including a full sibling with earnings over $500,000 and a graded stakes performance. Moonshine Now stands at Copper Kettle Performance Horses in Didsbury, bringing his impressive bloodlines and performance potential to Alberta’s breeding scene.

The Tapit son, Tapiture, out of the Olympio mare, Free Spin, is new to Canada for 2025 and standing at Highfield Stock Farm.  An outstanding sire that you won't want to miss! With over $1.5 million in earnings on the track and a stellar career in the breeding shed, Tapiture has established himself as a sire of successful runners. His impressive stats include 9 stakes winners and 6 stakes placed runners last season, making him a top choice for breeders looking to produce top-quality runners.

With these new additions and increased awards, the 2025 season is shaping up to be a game-changer for Alberta’s breeding industry! Alberta offers an exciting selection of premium stallions for breeders looking to pair their top mares with the best in the industry. Among them is the only son of Into Mischief standing in Western Canada at Workwize Stables, a rare opportunity you won’t want to miss!

With many more high-caliber stallions available, Alberta is a prime destination for breeding excellence!

n Memory of Golden Made (1998 - 2025) Today, we say goodbye to Golden Made, whose beauty, kindness and spirit made her a favourite for everyone on the farm. Golden Made earned over $372,000 on the track with 11 wins from ages 2 to 5, but her greatest gift to us was in the breeding shed: 12 foals, 12 to race, 12 to win. She was perfect. Highfield Stock Farm was fortunate to purchase Golden Made at the Keeneland January Sale in 2007, and she has been a cherished part of our broodmare band ever since.

If you visit Anne Kursinski’s Market Street facility in Frenchtown, New Jersey, you might notice a striking bay gelding with a broad blaze and four white socks being ridden by one of her students or her partner, Carol Hoffman. You might wonder about his breeding—until you remember that for Kursinski, a member of the Show Jumping Hall of Fame, nothing can beat a good Thoroughbred. “I am a huge fan of the Thoroughbreds, no question,” said Kursinski, 65, who famously rode ex-race horse Eros to team silver at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. “Thoroughbreds are intelligent and athletic, brave and light.” The newest Thoroughbred in her life—Bobby Socks, so named in honor of his four white socks—became part of the Market Street family in 2022, after a chance conversation at a horse show between Kursinski and her longtime friend and retired show jumper Mary Chapot. “Mary said they had this Thoroughbred that was too slow for Laura [Chapot, Mary’s daughter], and she thought maybe we’d like to take a look,” Kursinski recal
