Amateur jockeys ran the C Cup Classic on Saturday, October 5th at Century Downs Racetrack and Casino and raised over $4400 for brain tumour research and the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada.

When the dust settled, the 2019 running of the C Cup Classic raised a total of $4428.80 towards brain tumour research in support of the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada. This annual event raises funds for cancer research and this year, the C Cup Classic raised funds for the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada.

A field of seven racehorses partnered with amateur jockeys competed in the charity horse race which took place on Saturday, October 5th at Century Downs Racetrack and Casino. Jockey Stephan Heiler flew in especially from Toronto to partake in the six furlong race and took the win aboard his mount, Feisty Forester. Fesity Forester was bred by Denny Andrews and is owned by Glen Scarlett. The seven year old Old Forester gelding has lifetime earnings of $72,653 and ten wins.

The amateur jockeys that took part included Twylla Bensmiller on five year old Witt Stamp, Ryan Bott on four year old Jax On, Stephan Heiler on Feisty Forester, Oscar Martinez on four year old Flash the Cash, Kate Pendergast on four year old Respect the Shot, Roy Ramirez on four year old Run Away Lane and Gordie Smith on seven year old Never Lose Hope. These riders are licensed and regulated under the Canadian Amateur Jockeys Association (CAJA) and do not make their living riding races. They must be a minimum of 135 pounds and are only permitted to ride in designated races.

Twylla Bensmiller was the top fundraiser in the C Cup Classic with $816.55, second place fundraiser was Gord Smith with $730.35 and Roy Ramirez took third spot with $630.25 raised. The top three fundraisers were awarded a belt buckle and gift certificate sponsored by Century Downs Racetrack and Casino. The total jockey fundraising donations came to $3528.80 and with the addition of $900.00 in generous C Cup race sponsor donations, total funds raised came to a grand total of $4,428.80. All funds raised were matched by an anonymous donor and went directly to the Canadian Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada.

A group of eight guests were able to attend the C Cup Classic from the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada. This group was new to racing and a special thank you goes to trainer, Rod Cone, for helping these visitors understand their track experience and including them in his win picture for race nine.

Gift certificates were sponsored by the C.T.H.S. Alberta to the best dressed pony people at the C Cup Classic. The placings were decided upon by the Brain Institute of Canada guests with Robin Cook awarded first place, second went to Devon Sted and third place was given to Jill Kluby.

Thank you to all the sponsors and supporters that made the 2019 C Cup Classic a success including Bar None Ranches Ltd., sponsor of the buckle and gift card to the winning jockey; the H.B.P.A. of Alberta, sponsor of the C Cup Classic cooler to the winning racehorse; Century Downs Racetrack and Casino, sponsor of the saddle cloths and buckles and gift cards to the top fundraisers. Thank you also to Theresa Sealy and the riders with the Canadian Amateur Jockey Association for their fundraising and participation in the C Cup Classic. Thank you also to all the donors who were so generous in their support of the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada and brain tumour research.
