September 15, 2025 News Release

The Alberta Breeders’ Fall Classic once again showcased the success of the Canadian Thoroughbred Horse Society (Alberta Division) sales, proving that sale graduates are winners. On Saturday, during the richest day in Alberta-bred horse racing, all seven $60,000 stakes races were captured by horses that had been available through past CTHS Alberta Thoroughbred Sales.

Leading the way was current Alberta Horse of the Year, Champion Alberta-bred and Champion Older Mare, Big Hug, who stormed home to win her second consecutive Alberta Fall Classic Distaff Handicap. This remarkable mare, purchased for just $3,500 at the 2021 CTHS Alberta Sale, has now earned over $600,000 in her career.

The day’s results also celebrated the success of other sale graduates. Itsallgoodman, bred by Stone Ranches, captured the Red Diamond Express Handicap, marking another win for the 2023 Champion Three-Year-Old Colt and Sprinter. No More Lies, the reigning Champion Two-Year-Old Filly and Sprinter bred by Bushido Stables, scored a decisive victory in the Alberta Oaks. Holiday’s Again, bred by C.W. Matier, took the Beaufort Stakes, while Relaxgodoitramone, bred by Highfield Investment Group Inc., claimed the Alberta Premier’s Futurity. Patriotic Freedom, bred by Workwize Enterprises, added to the list of triumphs by winning the Alberta Breeders’ Handicap.

The sire power behind these winners is also on display in this year’s upcoming sale. Buyers looking for bloodlines that deliver results will find a Cross Traffic filly in the Scott Palmer Ranching Ltd. consignment, sired by the same Cross Traffic who produced Sturgeon River Stakes winner Hiway Fortynine. Those impressed by the performances of Alberta Oaks winner No More Lies and Alberta Premier’s Futurity winner Relaxgodoitramone will note that both are by Fed Biz, a proven sire with multiple yearlings on offer this year. Fans of Holiday’s Again will have the chance to bid on two yearlings by his sire O’Prado Again, offered in the Janet Hawkes consignment. In addition, a half-sister to Patriotic Freedom, sired by freshman stallion Malibu Max and out of the mare Miss Marsha Lynn, will be available through the WorkWize ENT consignment.

This year’s catalogue also offers the opportunity to purchase from the very breeders behind this year’s Alberta Breeders’ Fall Classic winners. Yearlings are on offer from Bushido Stables, Stone Ranches, Workwize Enterprises, C.W. Matier, Highfield Investment Group, and three-time leading Alberta breeder Esquirol Farms.

The Canadian Thoroughbred Horse Society (Alberta Division) is proud to present the 2025 CTHS Alberta Thoroughbred Sale on Friday, September 19 at Westerner Park in Red Deer. With 107 entries, including 105 yearlings from more than 40 consignors, the sale features a deep and diverse catalogue that blends proven sires with the first crops of exciting newcomers.

CTHS Alberta sale graduates are also eligible to compete in the annual Alberta Sales Stakes races, with further opportunities available across the country for graduates that meet eligibility requirements in their respective provinces. Time and again, Alberta sale graduates have proven their ability to compete and win at the highest levels, making this year’s sale an unmissable opportunity.

Buyers can attend in person or participate online with live video and audio streaming available through auctions.cthsnational.com. Viewing runs from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, September 18, and from 9 a.m. until sale time on Friday, with the live auction set to begin at 3:00 p.m. The full catalogue is available now at www.cthsalta.com/2025-cths-alberta-sale.

Beyond the sale, ownership of an Alberta-bred racehorse brings added value. In 2025, a remarkable $2.4 million will be shared by owners and breeders of Alberta-breds through the Horse Racing Alberta Thoroughbred Breed Improvement Program.

Be part of the excitement, invest in the future, and join the long list of success stories that began at the CTHS Alberta Sale.
