CTHS Alberta Condolences to Family and Friends of Bob Clements

Admin • February 15, 2024

It is with a heavy heart that the family of Robert (Bob) Clements, 47, announce his sudden passing on the morning of February 4th, 2024.

Bob was born in Calgary, Alberta to parents Doug and Debbie and spent the majority of his life growing up on the thoroughbred race track while living in the Airdrie/Calgary areas with his parents and sister, Carrie. Bob had a passion for horses from a very young age, being a third-generation horseman. After graduating from Dr. E.P. Scarlett High School in 1995, he quickly made his way to the track full-time where he dabbled in all areas of the business including selling racing forms, being a guest handicapper on the Simulcast Network show, grooming, jockey’s agent, trainer, breeder, and an owner.

He left the racetrack for a period of time, where he then spent a number of years as an electrician. It wasn’t long though before he found his way back at the track as a trainer before finally settling down and running a farm east of Okotoks. It was during that time that he also found a love for construction, as the owner of the farm was also the owner of a development company, Intergulf-Cidex. This allowed Bob the opportunity to dabble in construction during his downtime at the farm, and in a meeting of what could only be described as fate due to the circumstances, he met the love of his life, Renee, in 2009.

Bob and Renee dated for a few years before buying a house together and moving to Okotoks. Bob was now in construction full-time and he and Renee started to build their amazing life together. They enjoyed camping, fishing, playing slo-pitch, garage beers with their many friends, and of course, spending time with their family. Bob and Renee married in August of 2017, and eventually moved to their dream farm. It was there that Bob’s passion for the horses would return, which also allowed Renee to not only see that side of him – but to be his partner in the endeavor of owning and breeding mares. While the intention was to sell the first baby, a filly, Bob’s love for the sport and the animals just wouldn’t allow him to do so and he was very excited to see her head to the race track this coming spring.

Bob spent many years growing his success within the construction industry, which enabled him to have the best of both worlds – a successful career in construction while living out his dream of owning, breeding, and racing thoroughbred horses. In 2020, Bob found what he believed to be his forever home at Fillmore Construction until his sudden passing.

While Bob and Renee did not have children of their own in the “traditional” sense, they had many animals in which they loved just as much, if not more, than a parent loves their child. In what many family members called their “funny farm” or “nut-house,” their children over the years consisted of horses Cookie, Stormy, Lady, Renie, and Beefcakes, two dogs, Duke and Molly, and seven cats, Neiko, Bolt, Bella, Tucker, Leo, Willy, and Billy the Kid. Hence – the “Funny Farm.”

Few knew outside of Bob’s inner circle his deep love for all things Christmas. Whether it be listening to Christmas music starting on November 15th, hunting out and collecting vintage ornaments and decorations, watching National Lampoons Christmas Vacation for what seems like the millionth time (and quoting it,) or decorating his house with the most Christmas lights he could purchase – his love for Christmas was unmatched and will be dearly missed every holiday season.

To know Bob was to know a helping hand like no other. It was rare that you came across someone who Bob had not helped out in some capacity, whether big or small. His empathetic nature and comforting presence made him a cherished confidant, especially within his family, where he proved to be there for everyone in every scenario possible. He will be sorely missed by every individual he came into contact with, especially his family.

Bob is survived by his wife Renee, his parents, Douglas and Debra, his sister Carrie, his brother-in-law Jay, his niece Madison and nephew Ty, his mother-in-law Janet, brothers-in-law Travis, and Russ, niece and nephew, Jade and Owen, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He is predeceased by his grandparents, Fred and Katie Clements, Don and Norma Drader, and his Uncle Kelly Drader.

A funeral service will be held at Snodgrass Funeral Homes, High River, Alberta on Friday, February 16th, 2024 at 1:30 PM.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting all condolences be made out to the GoFundMe page in an effort to support and aid his wife, Renee, through navigating this difficult time.

The GoFundMe Page is listed under Memorial Contributions directly below the obituary.
