Allocation of Additional Funds to 2024 Thoroughbred Breed Improvement Program Announced

Calgary, Alberta — The Alberta Thoroughbred Community Racing Association (ACTRA), the Canadian Thoroughbred Horse Society (CTHS), and the Horsemen's Benevolent and Protective Association (HBPA) are pleased to announce the allocation of additional funds to the 2024 Thoroughbred Breed Improvement Program.

This year, an additional $66,588.00 in funding has been made available from Horse Racing Alberta to bolster the 2024 Thoroughbred Breed Improvement Program.

The distribution of these funds will be as follows:

·        $5,000 directed towards Owners of horses of all ages foaled in Alberta, placing win, place, and show in Community Stakes races, bringing the total funding for 2024 in this category to $25,000.

·        $10,000 allocated to enhance Community Alberta Bred Stakes purses, resulting in a total of $100,000 for these stakes races.

·        The remaining $51,588 will be split between Owners' Breeding Support and Breeders’ Breeding Support, with each group receiving an additional $25,794.

"This allocation of additional funds marks a significant commitment to the enhancement of the Alberta Thoroughbred industry," said Jean Kruse, CTHS Alberta General Manager. "We are confident that these investments will not only support the development of local breeding programs but also strengthen the competitiveness of Alberta-bred horses in the racing circuit."

The 2024 Thoroughbred Breed Improvement Program aims to foster growth, sustainability, and competitiveness within Alberta's Thoroughbred breeding and racing sectors. By supporting owners, breeders, and stakeholders, HRA continues its dedication to advancing Thoroughbred breeding and racing in Alberta.
