Four new stallions standing in Alberta for the 2020 Season including COLTIMUS PRIME, READY INTAGLIO, SPEEDMEISTER and STREET CRY

Admin • Nov 28, 2019

Milwaukee Brew son COLTIMUS PRIME acquired by Beau Valley Stable to stand the 2020 season in Didsbury

Mike Hoffman, manager of Beau Valley Stable, told the BloodHorse recently that “Bringing a young sire to the Western Canada market is a fresh change and it aligns with the excitement of the two new world class racing facilities that we have north of Calgary – Century Downs and Century Mile.” Coltimus Prime is a young sire in a market that traditionally attracts older stallions brought in from stud duties elsewhere. The eight year old is a Canadian classic winner, an international champion and a horse that excelled on the dirt at distances over a mile. Century Mile Racetrack and Casino opened this year as the only one mile racetrack in western Canada.

The owner of Beau Valley Stable, Anthony Bilotta, said that the pedigree of the young stallion was outstanding since Milwaukee Brew was a multiple grades stakes winner of over $2.8 Million and “then I look on the female side and the dam’s progeny has won over $1.1 Million and she’s got Ribot on both sides, which I love.”

The grades stakes placed runner finished his race career in 2018 with earnings of $644,125 and wins or placings in ten black type stakes including the fastest time recorded in two decades in the 2014 Prince of Wales Stakes; the 2017 Clasico Presidente de la Republica, a Grade 1 race in Panama and the country’s richest race; and the Invitational Cup Stakes at Gulfstream Park. Coltimus Prime was named Panama’s 2017 champion older horse and champion stayer. Injury forced his retired at the end of last season and presented the opportunity for Beau Valley Stable to acquire the freshman sire.

The stud fee for Coltimus Prime has been set at CDN $2,500.

Canadian Derby Winner READY INTAGLIO Now Standing in Alberta

Champion Alberta Three Year Old and Horse of the Year, Ready Intaglio, will be standing the 2020 season in Alberta at the farm of Eurico and Robbin Martens in Edmonton. The graded stakes winner and 87th Canadian Derby winner won multiple open stakes races including the Ky Alta Handicap, the Count Lathum Handicap, the Canadian Derby and the Spangled Jimmy.

Ready Intaglio is a son of the A.P. Indy sired graded stakes winner Indygo Shiner ($444,066) out of the More than Ready mare, Mama Maxine.

The first foals for Ready Intaglio arrived in 2019 and a complimentary breeding may be offered to qualified mares.

SPEEDMEISTER to stand at Empire Equestrian in Ardrossan

The Bodemeister son SPEEDMEISTER will be added to the stallion roster at Empire Equestrian for the upcoming season. Speedmeister sold for $650,000 as a two year old in training through the 2016 Fasig-Tipton sale in Florida and was a winner at two, three and four with wins at Keeneland, Churchill Downs and Century Downs. The five year old finished his race career in 2018 with six wins and a third place in nineteen starts with career earnings of $108,573.

Bodemeister is a graded stakes winner of $1.3 Million and the sire of a Kentucky Derby winner in his first crop – Always Dreaming ($2,415,860). The dam of Speedmeister, Blossomed, was recently sold at the 2018 Keeneland November Breeding Stock sale for $425,000. The Deputy Minister mare also produced the graded stakes winner Sippican Harbor ($262,650) and the grades takes placed runner Bodacious Babe ($154,259).

Speedmeister will stand for an introductory fee at Empire Equestrian of $1,500 with a Live Foal Guarantee.

TRUE SENSE, an unraced son of Street Cry (IRE) and full brother to Kentucky Derby and Breeders cup Juvenile Winner Street Sense ($4,383,200), has been relocated to the Dunvegan Stud at Fairview. True Sense was previously among the leading sires in Manitoba.

Street Cry (IRE) had career earnings of over $5 Million and was named the United Arab Emirates Horse of the Year. The graded stakes winner is best known as the sire of Winx (Three times Australia’s Horse of the year and voted Longines 2018 Worlds Best Race horse) and as the sire of America's Horse of the Year 2010 Zenyatta.

True Sense sired four crops in Manitoba including 11 winners of 28 races, 2 stakes winners and earnings of $239,838: Berazzle ($42,011), Truly N Terrific ($40,016), Smart Sense ($25,009), True Louie ($21,794), Sintalena ($20,373), True Kommando ($19,780), Sweet Indulgence ($16,096), Give Me That Wink ($10,486), Trading Game ($9,465).
