CTHS (Alberta Division) 2025 Foal in Alberta Program
This program is designed to encourage breeders to foal their mares in Alberta. The program
aims to increase the presence of Thoroughbred foals in Alberta and incentivize breeders to foal their mares in the province to capitalize on the Benefits of an Alberta Bred.
Key details are outlined below:
Eligibility:
Mares:
- Must be a Registered Thoroughbred mares that has NOT had a registered Thoroughbred foal in Alberta in the last three years.
- Mares must have live foal in Alberta in 2025 with required (JC live foal report & registration) documentation in 2025 to be eligible.
- Must be bred back a Thoroughbred stallion standing in Alberta during the 2025 breeding season.
- Mares are eligible for only one CTHS program
Breeders:
- Must be CTHS Full Members in good standing for 2025.
- Membership must be active before the program deadline to qualify.
Program Limits:
- Maximum of 20 mares accepted into the program.
- One application per mare, and a maximum of one mare per breeder can receive funding.
Funding Details:
- Mares are eligible for payment when following documents have been provided to a total of $1,500
- Payment will only be made once the following documentation is received:
Documentation
- Canadian Foal Registration Certificate through the CTHS.
- Proof of breeding to an Alberta-based Thoroughbred stallion during the 2025 breeding season signed by stallion owner or syndicate manager
- Live foal pictures and veterinary certificate confirming the foal's health.
Payout Conditions:
- Payment will be issued once all documents (foal registration, proof of breeding, live pictures, and vet certificate) are confirmed and reviewed by the board
Application Process:
- Application Deadline: All Applications must be submitted by August 1, 2025.
- Applications will be reviewed on a
first-come, first-served basis.
Priority will be given to the first 20 mares to apply

The CTHS (Alberta Division) reserves the right to limit this program to a maximum of 20 applicants. If a program is undersubscribed, any unused funds may be redirected to the Breeders' Bonus or other CTHS programs, or redistributed to eligible breeders. The CTHS also reserves the right to inspect all records, breeding documents, veterinary certificates, and other related materials to verify eligibility. Participants agree to provide such documents upon request. Non-compliance with verification requests may result in disqualification from the program.
Program Application Review Process:
All applications will be reviewed by a three-person CTHS (Alberta) Board Committee after each program deadline. It is the applicants’ responsibility to ensure that applications are completed accurately and that all required supporting documentation is submitted with the application. Failure to provide the necessary documentation or proof of current CTHS membership may result in the rejection of the application.
Applications will be assessed by the Committee to confirm that the submitted Thoroughbred mares meet the criteria for the respective program. The Committee reserves the right to transfer an application to a different program if the mare is deemed to be ineligible for the program originally applied for.
The Committee will recommend eligible applications to the CTHS (Alberta) Board of Directors for final approval and payout. Applicants whose submissions are unsuccessful will receive feedback explaining the reasons for rejection.
