2024 CTHS Sales Stake Winners & Review

2024 CTHS Sales Stakes Results: Alberta Breds Win on Sales Stake Festival Day!

Congratulations to the connections of the Sales Stakes winners on October 5th Century Downs! All four divisions were won by Alberta Breds with ITSALLGOODMAN and BIG HUG taking the three and four year old divisions while NO MORE LIES and HOLIDAYS AGAIN won the two year old divisions.

$200,000 in purse money was offered through the CTHS Alberta Sales Stakes with four races taking place on Saturday, October 5th at Century Downs Racetrack and Casino. The Two Year Olds and the Three & Four Year Olds each had a Colts & Geldings and a Filly Division; the Two Year Olds ran over a 6 furlong track while the Three & Four Year Olds competed at a 7 furlong distance.

The current Alberta bred Champion Itsallgoodman had his first win of the 2024 season with a victory in the Three and Four Year Old Sales Stakes. The Speightster three year old now has a record of 12-4-3-2 and career earnings of $136,527. Itsallgoodman was purchased through the 2022 CTHS Alberta sale from consignor and breeder, Stone Ranches, and purchased by owner Curtis Landry for $17,387.

The Alberta bred filly Big Hug’s winning streak in the Sales Stake races is impressive! Her latest victory in the Three and Four Year Old Filly Sales Stakes as a four year old follows consecutive wins in the Two Year Old and Three Year Old Filly Sales Stakes. The Mr. Big filly has inherited both strength and stamina, allowing her to stay competitive in various fields. Leading a nine-horse field is no small feat, and her ability to attain front-runner status speaks to her consistency and talent. Big Hug was bred by Chalet Stable and was purchased for $2,759 through the 2021 CTHS Alberta sale by current owners Empire Equestrian and Kerredge Farm.

Holiday’s Again had his first career win with a victory in the running of the Two Year Old Sales Stakes in a field of six runners. The O’Prado Again gelding had two third place finishes earlier this season in the black type Canadian Juvenile Stakes and the Martin Deerline Juvenile. The Alberta bred runner now has a record of 5-1-1-2 and earnings of $13,350 for owner, Tallie Racing. Bred by C.W. Matier, Holiday’s Again sold through the 2023 CTHS Alberta sale for $13,350.

The Fed Biz runner No More Lies, won the Filly Division of the Two Year Old Sales Stakes. The daughter of multiple stakes winner Tell Me Lies, also won her last start in the black type Sturgeon River Stakes giving her an impressive career record to date of 4-3-1-0 and $62,341 in earnings. No More Lies was sold through the 2023 CTHS Alberta sale by breeder and consignor, Bushido Stables and purchased for $29,666 by Everblack Cattle Co. Ltd. The filly is now owned by the partnership of owners Stetsco Inc, Ryan Stetson, Stetson Enterprises Ltd. and Everblack Cattle Co.

New this year was the 2024 Sales Stakes pay out of a 25% bonus to owners of Alberta bred racehorses placing win, place or show in the October 5th CTHS Sales Stakes. Owners of Alberta breds do indeed earn more!

The CTHS Alberta Sales Stakes are part of the Canadian Sales Stakes Series which allows all Canadian bred Yearling Graduates of CTHS Provincial Sales to be eligible to run in Sales Stakes offered across the country. Yearlings must have met the Sales Stakes eligibility requirements in the Province in which they ran through a CTHS sanctioned Yearling Sale. In Alberta, a yearling is eligible for the Sales Stakes Series that passed through the Alberta Division Sale where the full commission was paid to the CTHS and a Sales Sake in fee and out fee has been paid.

A good turnout was had from post-secondary students on Campus Derby Day and congratulations to Megan and Ty on winning a scholarship each of $1000, sponsored by Horse Racing Alberta.

A huge thank you to our Sales Stake race sponsors High Plains Industrial Park, CBRE and Leeswood Construction for their support.
