Maiden and Open Mare Breeding Incentive Program

Maiden and Open Mare Breeding Incentive Program

(MOM BIP) 2023-2024

PART 2 DEADLINE: September 1st, 2024

The purpose of the Maiden Mare and Open Mare Breeding Incentive Program is to bring new Thoroughbred mares or out of production Thoroughbred brood mares into production. (An out of production Thoroughbred mare is one that was not bred and was open in 2022).

For this program; not bred means that the mare was not in the breeding shed, was not live covered or bred by any other means by any breed of stallion in the year 2022 and regardless of whether or not it resulted in a pregnancy.

Breeders who bred a maiden mare or a mare who was not bred in 2022, to a Stallion standing in Alberta for the 2023 breeding season with the intention of producing an Alberta Bred in 2024 will receive $2,500; $1,000 will be payable with confirmation of a 42 day or greater pregnancy by a registered vet and a declaration from the stallion owner. Breeders will receive the remaining $1,500 within 30 days of a live foal report filed with The Jockey Club resulting in an Alberta bred foal in 2024.

NOTE: Claimed mares that are eligible for the H.B.P.A. 2023 Mare Incentive Purchase Program will not be eligible. This program is not transferable.

Breeders must be Full Members in good standing of the CTHS to qualify. Non-residents of Alberta are welcome to apply.

Fraud Statement:

Suspected acts of fraud or other similar irregularity in the submission of the application will be fully investigated and will be reported to the appropriate authorities. The C.T.H.S. (Alberta Division) will make all efforts to recover lost assets from anyone committing fraud.

Program Application Review Process:

All applications will be reviewed by a three person CTHS (Alberta) Board Committee after each program deadline.

It is the applicants’ responsibility to ensure that applications are filled in correctly and that all supporting documentation has been submitted with each application. (An application may be rejected if requested supporting documentation has not been submitted or proof of CTHS membership is not in place for the current year).

Applications will be reviewed by the Committee to ensure that Thoroughbred mares submitted to the program meet the criteria as laid out in each of the programs. The reviewing committee may move an application into another program if it is deemed that the mare is in the incorrect program.

The Committee will recommend to the CTHS (Alberta) Board of Directors the applications that will be paid out. Unsuccessful applications will receive feedback as to why their application was rejected.

Payment will be made to the applicants one month after the program deadline and will be made to the individual listed on the application.
