Longtime Alberta horseman Gerry Going sadly passed away on October 5, 2010 at the age of 82 years. Gerry was involved in the Alberta thoroughbred and quarter horse industry for many years and was highly influential in many areas of the industry. Gerry was instrumental in organizing the Alberta Quarter Horse racing association and was one of the first to race quarter horses in the province. He later bought the thoroughbred stallion Bold Ruckus as a yearling at the 1977 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky Summer Yearling Sale and brought him into Alberta. Bold Ruckus later became a very influential sire in Canada and was a leading sire for ten consecutive years; he was voted in to the Canadian Racing Hall of Fame in 2006. Our condolences go out to the family of Gerry Going.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Gerry at Red Deer Lake United Church at the corner of Highway 22X and 37th Street in south Calgary on Wednesday October 13th at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, Gerry's family has requested donations be made to Bar N K Rescue in care of the CTHS Alberta. Cheques should be made out to CTHS Alberta to be deposited for Bar N K Rescue.
