The Cochrane Eagle - May 12, 2010 - A man facing charges under Alberta’s Animal Protection Act will be in Cochrane Provincial Court on June 11 after his case was adjourned on May 7. Robert Lorne Craig, 50, is accused of allowing animals to be in distress and failing to provide adequate food and care after the Alberta SPCA seized 33 horses from the Springbank area on Jan. 5. The horses, which showed signs of malnutrition and some of which also had medical conditions, have since been auctioned off. Lorne was charged under Alberta's Animal Protection Act.

The Thoroughbred Owners & Breeders Association (TOBA) has announced a new award to be presented at the TOBA National Awards Dinner. The award, sponsored by Rood and Riddle will be presented to the top Thoroughbred sport horse of 2009. The United States Equestrian Federation will track points for Thoroughbreds in various competition disciplines and then a selection committee consisting of Michael Matz, George Morris, Mark Phillips, Patty Heuckeroth and Hilda Gurney will select the National Sport Horse of the Year. This award highlights the success Thoroughbreds can obtain in careers other than racing.
