Alberta trainer Stuart Simon won a $24,102 claiming race at Woodbine with the three year old gelding Air Wolf. Airwolf was bred by Calmar Stables and Ranch of Alberta and is owned by William Verbeek, Brent McLellan and Stuart Simon. He is by Rosetti out of Lady Alta by Ky Alta. (Updated May 19, 2009)
Sassy Sarah, owned by Central City Stables and Bar None Ranches, won a $40,000 allowance claiming race at Northlands on Saturday, May 9. Trained by Ron Grieves, this filly now has earned $213,860 in her career. She moved to the front of the six horse field after breaking last out of the gate. (Posted May 13, 2009).
Rock Creek Bobby, nominee for Champion Two Year Old Colt at this year's Awards Night, was sadly euthanized following an injury suffered during a morning workout at Northlands last week. Rock Creek Bobby was bred by Jack & Linda Johnston of Peaceful Valley Stables and owned by M & P Equipment Inc. and Barb Saunders. (Posted May 6, 2009).
The stallion Explicit recently passed away at his Winsome Acres home in Sylvan Lake, Alberta. Explicit was on the list of Leading Canadian Sires of 2008 by winners with 56 starters, 25 winners and progeny earnings of $798,822. He was a multiple graded stakes winner of $603,190 and was a son of Distant View, Champion miler by Mr. Prospector. Explicit entered stud in 2003 and was brought to Winsome Acres to stand stud at the start of the 2008 season. (Posted May 6, 2009)
