Regal Tigereyes

The 3 and 4 Year Old Sales Stake was held on October 1, 2011 at Northlands over a one mile track. The Filly Sales Stake was won by Regal Tigereyes after a late bid for the lead and stretch duel saw her earn a victory over the other 5 runners. Regal Tigereyes is by the deceased Alberta stallion Tiger Trap out of the mare Regal Estate by Regal Remark.  The three year old chestnut filly has now earned over $50,000 in her first year on the track. She was bred by Thomas Lees and consigned to the 2009 CTHS Fall Mixed Sale by Tom and Emily Lees and purchased for $1500 by her current owners, Rocky Ridge Racing Stables. She is trained by Kirsty Luft-Nault.

The Three and Four Year Old Colts and Geldings division was won by My Lucky Thirteen who ran a strong race and rallied at the finish to win the race. My Lucky Thirteen is by General Royal out of Bia Valentine by Bianconi. My Lucky Thirteen adds this victory to a second place finish in the Alberta Breeders' Handicap this year and a third place in the Beaufort Stakes in 2010. His career earnings as a three and four year old now stand at $89,809. Buddy Bensmiller purchased the four year old gelding as Hip #13 for $1200 in the 2008 Fall Mixed Sale. He is trained by Twylla Bensmiller.

Highfield Stock Farm plans to stand  EXHI in 2012 
Adrian Munro of Highfield Stock Farm in Okotoks, Alberta has announced a plan to stand the Multiple Stakes Winner EXHI  in 2012. The four year old is currently finishing his race season off at Woodbine where he is trained by Todd Pletcher. EXHI has earned over $807,000 in his career with victories in the Ben Ali Stakes at Keeneland, the Victoria Park Stakes at Woodbine, the Marine Stakes, The Coolmore Lexington Stakes at Keeneland and the Rushaway Stakes at Tampa Bay. The Kentucky bred EXHI is by Maria's Mon out of Soldera by Polish Numbers. He is currently owned by Wertheimer and Frere, a thoroughbred racing and breeding business partnership between brothers Alain and Gerard Wertheimer of France. The Wertheimer brothers are the owners of the House of Chanel in Paris. (Updated October 5, 2011)  
 

2011 CTHS Thoroughbred Sale

The 2011 CTHS Thoroughbred Sale was held at Northlands Park in Edmonton on the Sunday of Fall Classic weekend - September 18th. The sale was a success with a total of 71 yearlings, 2 weanlings, 20 mares and 6 horses of racing age offered for sale in the  catalogues. A total of 43 yearlings were sold for a total dollar amount of $318,700 giving an average yearling sale amount of $7,411.62.

The highest selling yearling was a gelding consigned by Bar None Ranches as Agent who sold for $35,000. The grey/roan gelding is sired by SAINT STEPHEN who is a graded stakes winning full brother to the Horse of the Year, Ashado. The first foals sired by Saint Stephen are two year olds of 2011 and his daughter, Holy Tempest, just had the first win for a Saint Stephen sired runner. The Alberta-bred Holy Tempest won the 5 1/2 furlong race at Northlands on September 11 for Dragon Reach Stables. The 2011 Sales Topping yearling is out of the stakes placed mare Withoutapproval who has produced the winner SIN TORO ($219,871). The yearling was purchased by Rick Wathen of Strathmore, Alberta.

The second and third highest yearlings each sold for $25,000. A CAPE CANAVERAL filly consigned by Highfield Stock Farm was purchased by Riversedge Racing Stable. The filly is out of successful broodmare, Lady Glacken, who has produced the stakes winning horses BEARS ARTISTE ($217,545) and BODGITS LADY ($91,571). The other $25,000 yearling was a HOLY BULL colt consigned by Don Gibb as Agent and purchased by Don Dimma of Sherwood Park, Alberta. This colt is out of the successful race mare FLEET WAHINE ($256,321). She has produced six winners in her seven foals to date. 

Cam Ziprick of Manitoba consigned the fourth highest selling yearling at $18,000 - a colt by the stakes winning son of STORM CAT,  SEEKING THE DIA. He already has a winner from his first crop to run this year - Seeking Brave. This yearling is the first foal for his dam, a stakes winner called WONDERFUL LUCK ($103,506).  The fifth highest selling yearling was  consigned by Ken Anderson of Huxley, Alberta and sold for $16,000 to Craig Smith of Olds, Alberta.  The yearling gelding is named HOLLYWOOD PULPIT and is by MINISTERS WILD CAT out of an unraced mare named Royal Ride. Royal Ride has produced several successful winners including Screaming Regal ($128,120).
