2010 CTHS (Alberta Division) Thoroughbred Sale
Date of Sale: Thursday September 23, 2010
Deadline for Entries: Friday July 2, 2010
Location: Red Deer - Westerner Park Agricentre
After reviewing the results of the last several years of Thoroughbred sales in Alberta and the race track situation the CTHS (Alberta Division) Board of Directors' decided unanimously that in 2010 the Yearling Sale and Fall Mixed Sale will be consolidated into ONE Alberta Thoroughbred sale. The 2010 Sale will be held on Thursday, September 23rd in Red Deer at the Westerner Park Agricentre.
Over the course of several months the Board of Directors looked at number of different venues, the available dates and costs before arriving at their decision. The Westerner Park at Red Deer was chosen based on having the best date and cost compared to other venues that were considered. The Red Deer facility is also central, making it accessible to all people across the province.
There will be several other changes beginning in 2010. The catalogue and sale will be in three parts. The first part will consist of Canadian-bred yearlings with the second part being American-bred yearlings. The final part of the sale will be for weanlings, horses of racing age and broodmares.
Consignors entering yearlings into the sale will be required to pay the $100 Sales Stake In Fee so that all yearlings will have the opportunity to be sales stakes eligible.
All yearlings that pass through the sales ring, whether sold or not sold, will be sales stakes eligible provided that the out fee for any yearling listed in the CTHS sale catalogue for the year is paid at the time of that CTHS sale. If the out fee is not paid at the time of the CTHS sale the owner may pay an additional supplementary fee of $3,000 per race at the time of nomination to the Sales Stake Race to enter into the Sales Stake.
For consignors, entry fees for the Canadian-bred yearlings will stay at $350.00, American-bred yearlings will be $700.00 and all other entries will be $150.00. Beginning in 2010 the upset price for yearlings will be $1,000.00 which is the same as other Thoroughbred sales both in Ontario and Kentucky. The upset price for broodmares, horses of racing age and weanlings will now be $500.00.
This decision will be reviewed by the Board of Directors once the racing situation in Alberta improves.
