It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Miki Bleu Eyes, 1998. Alberta-bred Miki had 54 starts and lifetime earnings of $257,197 (USD) and was retired at the end of the 2008 racing season. He was enjoying retirement and was getting ready to begin his new career when he was a victim of the August 3 storm. Miki Bleu Eyes was by Slewvescent --- Miss Tiki 91 and was the winner of the 2002 Westerner Handicap Stakes. (Posted August 6,2009)
The Sales Stakes for Two Year Olds was held at Northlands on Saturday, August 15th. The Sales Stake for Colts & Geldings was won by Len Again in a time of 1:21.20. Len Again is an Alberta-bred gelding by General Royal out of Olyana by Olympio. He was bred by Karen Cassidy and Joe Fenrich and is trained by Ron Smith. Len Again is owned by Jim and Carole Barker and Joe Fenrich and Red Diamond Stable. Second place finisher was Vintage King by Cobra King owned by Tom White and Kerredge Farm and third place spot went to Extra Break by Deak Breaker and owned by Diana Feuerhelm.
The Sales Stake for Two Year Old Fillies was held on the same day and was captured by the Alberta-bred filly, Shifty Time in a time of 1:19.80. Shifty Time was bred by Dr. Don Gibb and is by Old Topper out of Dandy Andy by Avies Copy. She is owned by SNS Herefords, Morison Farms, Danny Hansen and Compass Ranch; Greg Tracy is her trainer. Second place went to Maria Fortunata by Chapel Royal and owned by Linda Smith; Takemywordforit by Commitisize and owned by Frank, Jamie and Margaret Graham captured third place. The top three horses in the Birdcatcher Stakes on Sunday August 30th at Northlands Park were all Alberta-breds. Cool Kahuna won the race after the two year old dark brown gelding set the pace early to earn first place against second placed Tiny Giant and third place finisher Slews Academy. Cool Kahuna earned a total of $57,600 - $30,000 for first place and $27,600 for the Alberta-bred bonus. Cody Anderson is the trainer of Cool Kahuna who is owned by Abe and Donovan Brewster. All ten races on Sunday's card at Northlands were won by Alberta-breds. (Updated August 31,2009)
