The decision to move the 2009 CTHS Canadian-Bred Summer Yearling Sale to the Westerner venue at Red Deer has been carefully planned and thought out. The change in venues is in response to feedback gathered from consignors and buyers at the 2008 CTHS Summer Yearling Sale. The CTHS would like to maintain the Summer Yearling Sale as a quality sale that meets the needs of the members. Notice to Consignors:
Please forward all required documentation (registration papers & coggins tests) with your sale contracts.
Any Consignor/Breeder whose yearlings do NOT change ownership at the time the CTHS transfer the registration papers (which is normally 30 days after the sale), these yearlings will NOT be eligible to run in the Sales Stakes.
The Four Year Old & Up Sales Stake will be phased out starting in 2010. The Four Year Old & Up Sales Stake will be replaced with a Three & Four Year Old Sales Stake.
As of 2008, a sixth condition will be added to the Conditions of Sale in the CTHS Alberta Sales catalogues. The condition requires the consignor to warrant that any yearling entered in the sale shall not have been administered any exogenous anabolic steroids within 45 days of the date of the sale. Testing will be available to the purchaser at the sale under certain conditions that may be read in further detail in the sales catalogue. This change follows a recommendation put forth by the Thoroughbred Safety Committee formed on May 8, 2008 by The Jockey Club. The recommendation calls for "The immediate adoption by all North American racing authorities of the RCI Model Rule on Androgenic Anabolic Steroids that was based on Racing Medication and Testing Consortium recommendations, which effectively eliminate the use of all anabolic steroids in the race training and racing of Thoroughbreds .
Please note that beginning in 2009, the CTHS (Alberta Division) Summer Yearling Sales will be for Canadian-bred horses only!
